We are teaming up again with the Blaine County School District to bring The Lunch Connection to Woodside Elementary School this summer! We are offering free lunches and hot breakfasts to hungry children throughout our community, Mondays through Fridays on the below dates. Adults are also invited to enjoy meals at a cost of $3.00 for lunch and $1.75 for breakfast.

WHY is The Lunch Connection necessary?

One-in-three Blaine County students qualify for a free or reduced meal during the school year. In the summer of 2008 The Hunger Coalition and Blaine County School District brought the Lunch Connection – Nourishing Bellies and Bodies pilot program to Woodside Elementary recognizing that these children probably would not receive enough nutrition during the summer vacation.

WHO makes this all happen?

Volunteers from The Hunger Coalition assist in the cafeteria. In addition, The Environmental Resource Center and The Bellevue Public Library provide free activities to encourage attendance. Last year, Coalition volunteers logged in over 200 hours in the first 5 weeks, helping to serve meals and clean up after lunch.

WHAT can you do to help?

Spend a few hours a week with an active, appreciative, and inspiring group of children and commit to the health and well being of our community!

"The Summer Food Program is a great success! We were so lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Environmental Resource Center and provide educational activities for the children. The volunteers got to know the children and establish relationships with the ones who enjoyed lunch everyday. "
